AS in Adults

Support groups

Support available for adults with Asperger syndrome can be geographically varied due to the factors such as the level of recognition of the syndrome among the service providers and professionals. Some areas have more support resources than the others for people with AS. It is important that you find out what the local resources are available for AS in your region.

I would like to clarify that sometimes you may come across social groups for people with AS, however, there are differences between support groups and social ones. Some social groups also provide support. You need to be aware of what kind of support the groups are offering. In some cases, you may encounter a whole range of people with autistic spectrum disorders with various levels of abilities in these groups.

Medical support

If you seek medical support for whatever difficulties you are experiencing, for example, anxiety or epilepsy. Your GP may be a good place to start. Please check whether your doctor is aware of your condition and understand what it is. You may write down what your difficulties are and how you think your doctor can help you the way s/he can before visiting your doctor.

Employment advice

If you are trying to obtain an employment, PROSPECTS offer people with AS support towards obtaining employment. There may be similar organisations offering employment assistance or advice but not specifically for AS people. Some of their workers may have experience in working with AS people.
